More about Speech Team

The speech team meets Wednesdays at 4:00 p.m. in G House in Room 245 (Ms. Amundrud's Room).  The practice is facilitated by the Coach and Captains.  You should contact the Coach or Captains for more information.  There are 12 possible categories.  This is a competitive activity governed by the rules of the Minnesota State Highschool league.  All competitors are expected to attend tournaments and prepared a speech and compete in one or two categories (no more).

The rules of the league are here: https://www.mshsl.org/sports-and-activities/speech.

The goal is to practice and compete at local and regional tournaments leading to competing at sections and the ultimate goal is to qualify for the state tournament and become a state champion at the state tournament in April.  Speech is an amazing talent and activity and all competitors eventually learn the skills that are critical later in life.

Your coach and Captains are skilled competitors with backgrounds in the activity and our goal is to teach you lifelong skills.

Note that all parents are expected to judge in order to keep costs low and to ensure that the largest numbers can effectively travel to all tournaments.

Tournament Calendar

The Calendar starts in January and goes through mid April with the State competition.  Students should join the classroom since it is subject to change.

Practices are Wednesdays starting shortly after school.  Tournaments are on Saturdays through February and March with the bus leaving around 6:15-6:30 a.m. and arriving back home generally before 6 p.m.  The Big Nine tournament is on a Thursday in Mid March.
