Varsity Lettering Standards

To be eligible to earn a varsity letter in track & field you must participate in the program for the entire season and:

QUALIFYING STANDARDS

  • Be a good citizen and abide by the state high school league, district and team rules.
  • Complete the season with NO UNEXCUSED absences (both practices and meets).

AFTER the Qualifying Standards have been met...an athlete may letter by achieving any one of the following: 

POINTS / PLACING STANDARDS

  • Lettering Points - Score points or participate in at least five varsity meets.
  • Place in an individual event in the Big 9 Conference Meet or Section Meet or place in the top 5 in a relay in either meet.

PERFORMANCE STANDARDS

Meet any one of the following standards based on FAT equivalent times (.24 will be added to hand held times).

pole vault 11-0

100 m dash 11.8

200 m dash 24.0

110 m Hurdles 17.0

300 m Hurdles 45.0

400 m dash 55.0

800 m run 2:09

1600 m run 4:55

3200 m run 10:50

 

INJURIES / SENIORS / MANAGERS

  • An athlete injured during the season will be eligible to letter if, in the opinion of the coaches, he would have lettered had he not been injured and he continues to attend practices, meets and assists the coaches with assigned duties.
  • Seniors who have participated for three seasons and have not yet lettered will earn a letter, provided they have met the Basic Standards.
  • Managers will letter if they have no more than 3 unexcused absences during the season, actively assist the coaching staff during practice and meets and attend meets as requested by the coaches.
  • An athlete who does not meet the above criteria, but who, in the judgment of the coaching staff, makes a significant contribution to the success of the program may also earn a letter.
